Environmental groups sue to block impending Gulf of Mexico oil and gas lease auction

Six environmental justice groups have sued the federal government in an attempt to stop a Gulf of Mexico oil and gas lease sale from happening later this month.

The six groups, who filed their suit in federal court in the District of Columbia, say the Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management failed to properly vet the environmental impact of the lease sale and used “insufficient and arbitrary environmental analyses” to justify it.
