”Different applications of AI for climate action can support justice if they are developed from the ground-up alongside stakeholders from underserved contexts.” — Dr. Priya L. Donti, co-founder and chair of Climate Change AI |
Mozilla recently launched the AI Intersections Database, which catalogs organizations, people, and issues at the intersection of AI and seven social justice areas: Community Health and Collective Security, Disability Justice, Economic Justice, Environmental Justice, Gender Justice, Human Rights, and Racial Justice. Dr. Donti is one of those people working at the intersection of AI and social justice. Thanks to her research, she’s uncovered myriad climate harms that disproportionately impact people of color worldwide. That’s why I wanted to chat with her for our blog series that explores just how AI intersects with the justice areas in the Database. We talked about the good (it exists!) and the bad that comes with AI. And we also discussed what it takes to change course when you’re up against centuries of racism, colonialism, and extractivism (spoiler alert: it will take all of us). Will you take a moment today to read our blog post on how AI can help close the global climate action gap? In solidarity, Kenrya Rankin Research Editor + AIIDB Architect Mozilla P.S.
