What is White Privilege and Unconscious/Implicit Bias?
Melissa K. Prescott, Professor and Research Librarian, University Library, St. Cloud State University (MN) leads this session in which participants learn about and explore the concept of white privilege. Participants are asked to interrogate their own experiences of privilege, “unpack their invisible backpack,” and reflect on ways that privilege affects their perspectives on library services and literature.

What is Intersectionality?
Dr. Laura Jimenez, Lecturer, Boston University (MA) gives an introduction to intersectionality, a framework developed by Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw, and explores the ways in which different identities experience oppression and how those intersecting identities shape experiences, options, and perspectives.

What Is a Diverse and Inclusive Collection?
Do your current practices and policies support, ignore, or hinder efforts at diversity and inclusion? Robin Bradford discusses the need diverse books, explains and explores #ownvoices titles, and offers advice on making the selection of inclusive literature an intentional part of collection development and readers’ advisory.

Measuring and Assessing Inclusivity
Join Stephen Menendian, author of the Haas Institute’s Inclusiveness Index, a global ranking system which assesses nations based on their inclusivity and group-based marginalization, as he shares his insight into what a rigorous assessment of equity looks like. Stephen discusses the opportunities and obstacles for understanding the the complex world we inhabit with applied lessons for your library community in measuring equity.
