Click here Over the last two days, ERLC president Brent Leatherwood was in our nation’s capital to meet with officials across the government to discuss some of the pressing issues our convention of churches cares about. Here is what you should know about that visit: Congress has entered the lame duck session and we’ve made it clear to Senators and Representatives that we oppose the mis-named Respect for Marriage Act and that Congress should instead focus on pro-life protections in the budget & a solution for our neighbors known as Dreamers.Leatherwood also had an encouraging visit with the State Department to urge the Administration to continue doing all it can to morally oppose China and bring attention to the Uyghur genocide. They also discussed other areas around the globe where religious freedom is threatened. Our team met with the White House where they discussed the important role of faith in our nation’s life, protecting churches, and ways the Administration can advance the cause of human dignity in the weeks and months ahead.Throughout all these conversations, it was apparent our nation’s leaders deeply appreciate the SBC’s commitment to life, religious liberty, and marriage and family. While we may not always agree with these individuals, we are thankful for their willingness to serve and listen. We appreciate that our SBC churches cooperate to ensure our entity may do this sort of crucial public advocacy and, more importantly, bring the Gospel into the public square.
