At the same time, many churches are seeing a significant decrease in giving as a result of difficult economic circumstances. The ERLC is calling on Congress to remove hurdles to charitable giving so that our churches and nonprofits can thrive. Recently, we sent a letter to Congressional leadership urging them to include specific provisions in any future legislation. These provisions will allow churches and nonprofit organizations to continue serving their communities. These steps include: A two-year Universal Charitable Deduction (UCD) to encourage givingAdditional access to payroll resources for charitable nonprofitsProtections for the most vulnerable populationsThe ERLC is also grateful for the work of Senator James Lankford (R-OK), Senator Angus King (I-ME), and 28 other senators to encourage Congressional leadership to remove barriers for charitable nonprofits and houses of worship as they respond to fallout from the coronavirus. Finally, we joined an amicus brief in the 6th Circuit Court to protect unborn lives during this pandemic. Abortion is never essential, but especially not during a crisis when we want to save lives. Our team in Washington, D.C. and Nashville is working tirelessly to advocate for and advance the mission of the churches of the Southern Baptist Convention. Thank you for your continued prayers and support. Sincerely, The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commissionof the Southern Baptist Convention 901 Commerce Street, Suite 550 Nashville, Tennessee 37203 Share Tweet Forward Unsubscribe |
