Kontroverses Flaggenverbrennen 

Der Drohnenangriff der USA auf den General Kassem Soleimani löst im Iran eine grosse Protestwelle aus. Deutlich spürbar macht sich der Volkszorn in der grössten Flaggenfabrik des Landes in der Stadt Khomein. Die Fabrik, welche israelische und amerikanische Flaggen herstellt, die später an Demonstrationen in Brand gesetzt werden, profitiert seit den jüngsten Geschehnissen von einem boomenden Geschäft. Die Rekordumsätze des Betriebs führen wieder einmal zur umstrittenen Frage: Gehört das Verbrennen von Staatsflaggen unter den Schutz der Meinungsfreiheit, oder ist es eine klare Herabwürdigung eines Staates?

Les « leaks », quels défis pour la diplomatie ?

L’extradition de Julian Assange aux Etats-Unis illustre les tensions crées par les affaires de divulgation d’informations secrètes (ou «leaks» en anglais) impliquant des instances gouvernementales. Entre l’Angola, le Cap-Vert ou encore le Portugal, l’affaire Luanda Leaks s’annonce elle aussi comme un défi diplomatique complexe impliquant de multiples acteurs internationaux. Bataille d’influence géopolitique, les leaks peuvent encore être le moyen d’avoir un impact rapide et important sur ses adversaires économiques et/ou politiques à moindres coûts. Quelles répercussions ces leaks, souvent indissociables de la sphère politique, engendrent-elles alors sur les pratiques diplomatiques ?

Kirkenes, a Norwegian town far up north, close to Russia and the Barents Sea, is in a state of fragile demographic, environmental and geopolitical balance. To revive the region, the mayor is courting Chinese investors to expand the harbor. Melting ice in the Arctic is creating new water routes, enticing China and Russia to expand trade and making Kirkenes’ port an attractive prospect. How would these routes shape Russia’s and China’s influence in the Arctic? And if Kirkenes turned into a major logistical hub, what would the political consequences compared to economic advantages be?
