ECOWAS mediates in Mali crisis

Led by the June 5 movement (M5), tensions in Mali have recently culminated in violent protests. M5 demands President Keita’s resignation, accusing him of Mali’s economic misery and the eight-year-long jihadist conflict. Since June, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has been mediating between the two fronts – without success. Now, ECOWAS set up an extraordinary summit, urging the opposition groups to join a  new unity government. ECOWAS tries to prevent further conflict in Mali, as it could lead to the destabilization of the Sahel region. While Keita's resignation is a “red line” for ECOWAS, the opposition remains suspicious of ECOWAS’ proposition. Can this political stalemate be solved?

Nouvelle ère dans la course aux étoiles 

Il y a quelques jours, SpaceX a conduit avec succès le premier vol habité privé jusqu’à la station spatiale internationale (ISS). La commercialisation de l'espace marque ainsi une nouvelle ère dans une course à l'espace de plus en plus ambitieuse. Cette collaboration privée implique cependant une exacerbation de la concurrence entre la Russie et les États-Unis car, depuis 2011, ces derniers devaient coopérer avec la Russie pour les vols jusqu’à l’ISS. Le nouveau cheminement de l'Amérique vers l’ISS, grâce au secteur privé, pourrait-il affecter les relations avec la Russie ou bien la conquête de l’espace est-elle impossible sans coopération ?
