Lisbon’s authorities sharing protester’s information
Lisbon’s authorities shared personal data of 52 organisers of protests with embassies. The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation bans such data sharing since 2018. Mayor Fernando Medina declined to confirm which embassies were involved, media reports however are citing China, Israel and Russia. The reveal of this sharing happened after a Russian-Portuguese organiser of a protest rally in Lisbon revealed to local media that she had received an email showing that the city hall shared her and other’s data. Other media reports state that the city hall further shared data of protesters in front of the Cuban, Angolan and Venezuelan embassies with the respective embassies as well as data on pro-Palestinian protesters with the Israeli embassy.
