8th February 2024: ETH Evening Talk: What is the “Axis of Resistance” and what does it want? An analysis of the situation in the Middle East
Relatively unknown until recently, the “Axis of Resistance” is suddenly a major concern of world politics: An Iran-led, loose alliance of states and para-state or non-state actors in the Near and Middle East including Syria, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Iraqi Shia militias. Which aims do its members pursue? And how do the Sunni Islamists of Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad fit into this otherwise mostly Shia alliance? These questions will be addressed by Prof. Toby Matthiesen from the Global Islamic Studies at the University of Bristol.
Thursday, 8th February 2024, 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm, Room HG E 33.3 in ETH Main Building, Rämistrasse 101, 8006 Zürich |
