| | | | | TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE | It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through the year, and as we all plan for the new financial year, at Tourism Australia we continue to remain optimistic about our industry’s recovery. This month we are excited about the much-anticipated kick-off of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which is being jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The tournament, from 20 July until 20 August 2023, will be held across five capital cities around Australia, including Sydney/Warrane, Melbourne/Narrm, Brisbane/Meeanjin, Adelaide/Tarntanya and Perth/Boorloo. During the month-long tournament, which is expected to reach a total audience of one billion viewers, the eyes of the world will be on Australia, and we have been working hard with the official broadcasters and outlets in our key markets to ensure we put Australian tourism front and centre wherever we can. | | | | | Japan hosts 10th Australia – Japan Tourism Dialogue | The Australia-Japan Tourism Cooperation Dialogue was held in Nagano last week. The Dialogue brought together stakeholders from government and industry, to discuss tourism priorities, with a particular focus on adventure and sustainable tourism. The exchange was an opportunity to further strengthen the strong relationship between Australia and Japan, as we continue to enhance the tourism markets in both countries. Japan is one of our longest standing tourism markets, and whilst it is still working its way back to 2019 levels of travel, we remain firmly committed to the long-term opportunities it presents. Over 45 Australian and Japanese government officials and industry representatives attended the dialogue. In 2019, Japan was Australia’s fifth largest international tourism market responsible for spend of approximately A$2.1b with 500,000 Japanese visitors arriving in Australia. |
| | Sharing Australia’s latest Business Events offerings in Malaysia | In June, Tourism Australia’s Business Events Australia Seminar 2023 took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The seminar was part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Tourism Australia has with Singapore Airlines aimed at promoting business events travel to Australia. The event was held at the EQ Hotel, supported by Singapore Airlines and attending Convention Bureaux (Business Events Adelaide, Business Events Perth, Business Events Sydney, Melbourne Convention Bureau, Destination Gold Coast). A total of 56 travel agents attended and received the latest information on business events destinations across Australia, as well as updates on how they can support business events planning with meeting, incentive, conference, and exhibitions agents. Event attendees also had the opportunity to experience Australian coffee culture and local produce ranging from cheeses, fruits, desserts, and more. |

| | | | Latinos Downunder Roadshow 2023 | Latinos Downunder hosted their Latin American Roadshow from 25 June to 1 July in Brazil, Argentina and Chile. The roadshow was held in partnership with 15 Australian seller companies, sponsored by LATAM Airlines and supported by Tourism Australia. In total, 64 targeted buyer companies and 175 buyer delegates participated across three workshops and multiple partner events in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paolo, Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile. Attendees learned the latest destination and product updates across Australia, building awareness and generating excitement to promote Australia. Austrade also attended each in demand workshop. |
| | UK Aussie Specialist agents upskilled on Australia | Tourism Australia’s London Aussie Specialist team recently partnered with Travel Gossip, one of the leading travel trade platforms in the UK, to host a series of Australia Takeover Roadshows. The events provided agents with the exciting opportunity to receive fresh inspiration and new ideas on how to best sell Australia to their customers from suppliers including Intrepid, AAT Kings and state tourism organisations. Over 100 people attended the roadshows including one agent, Kerry from Travelling Dreams, who travelled an impressive 200 miles from her home to join the roadshow in Leeds. |

| | | | ITB Berlin 2024 – Expressions of interest | Tourism Australia is seeking Expression of Interest for ITB Berlin 2024. The "World's Leading Travel Trade Show" will take place in Berlin, Germany from 5 to 7 March 2024. The event is expected to bring together 5,500 exhibitors with 90,000 visitors from 180 countries to network, negotiate and do business. As in past years, Tourism Australia will have a dedicated stand for Australian industry. Applications are best suited to State and Territory Tourism Organisations, Inbound Tour Operators and high-demand product. Standalone or boutique products interested in attending ITB Berlin 2024, may benefit from partnering with a complementary product or service. These articles highlight unforgettable experiences, such as wildlife encounters, natural wonders, vibrant cities, the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023™ and immersive Aboriginal experiences. The digital content includes captivating images and direct links to Australia.com, further supporting the promotion of Australia as a top travel choice. |

| | | | | Export Market Development Grant (EMDG) Refocus and Consultations | The Australian Government is committed to ensuring the EMDG program delivers on its objective of increasing the number of new exporters and supporting market diversification, while remaining a sustainable program into the future. The Government has also committed to strategically refocusing the program to better support Australian exporters to develop new markets in line with the Government’s trade diversification and other policy priorities. On 5 July, Austrade commenced consultations about how to best refocus EMDG. Individuals, businesses, agencies, and industry bodies are invited to read the Consultation Paper and contribute suggestions for improving EMDG. | | International Diversification Strategy for the visitor economy – consultation closing soon | Austrade is seeking to understand the challenges and opportunities facing visitor economy businesses considering market diversification. Industry is encouraged to provide input and feedback before the consultation process ends on 13 July. Diversification is a central pillar of THRIVE 2030, the long-term strategy for the nation’s visitor economy. International diversification in the visitor economy means attracting visitors from more international markets and market segments. A broad and balanced portfolio of source markets and market segments is required. This will build a more resilient visitor economy in coming decades. | | Cairns Aquarium launches the world’s first coral biobank | The Cairns Aquarium, Cairns' most visited tourist attraction has partnered with the Great Barrier Reef Legacy and officially opened the world’s first living coral biobank. The living coral biobank is a backup facility for Great Barrier Reef coral diversity under threat from either man made or naturally caused mass bleaching events. The living coral biobank is a conservation program which houses specimens of all 400 species of hard coral from the Great Barrier Reef. The Cairns Aquarium will be providing 30-minute guided biobank tours for the public to see the live coral collection. |
