| | | | | TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE | Last week, the Tourism Australia team in North America kicked off the month-long US Roadshow – Australia on Tour. Launched in Los Angeles on Wednesday, the Roadshow will visit 11 cities throughout America and Canada. Read more about Australia on Tour below. As campaign activity and events increase around the world, this week in Spotlight on the Regions we take a closer look at the United Kingdom to check in on consumer sentiment, emerging travel trends, and upcoming events being planned for the market. We also look at some of the ‘Work and Play the Aussie Way’ campaign activity taking place in Japan to inspire young Japanese working holiday makers to choose Australia. Next month we will see over 1,100 international buyers and Australian tourism operators descend on Sydney for the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) Live from 15 to 18 May. In addition to more than 38,000 appointments that will take place during the event, there will be plenty of opportunities to reconnect with industry colleagues at networking events throughout the program. | | | | Working Holiday campaign in Japan | In Japan, Tourism Australia’s Working Holiday campaign continues to promote ‘Work and Play the Aussie Way’ through social media advertising, Instagram Live events, webinars, and the ‘Ready for Australia’ Tabippo partnership. Social media influencers are also being hosted in Sydney to inspire Japanese youth to choose Australia as a working holiday destination. Recently, Tourism Australia launched a promotion with MyNavi, one of the most influential digital media channels targeting university students and working people in their twenties. The promotion includes a Twitter TV show, testimonial videos of experienced Japanese working holiday makers, and MyNavi news content promoting Australia as an ideal destination for Working Holiday Makers. |
| | Americans come say G’day at Australia House @ SXSW | As part of its ongoing sponsorship of SXSW’s Australia House, Tourism Australia hosted three events delivering a taste of Australia for key media, industry, and tastemakers in Austin, Texas, last month. Presenters included Friends of Australia Jason Dundas and Scott Tweedie as well as Darin Olien, co-host of Netflix’s Down to Earth with Zac Efron. As part of the G’day USA program partnership with the American Australian Association, Tourism Australia brought the house to life with branded assets and prominent speaking opportunities showcasing the best of Australia. SXSW is the most innovative conference in the United States, providing a platform to spotlight Australia’s reopening to the world and that the destination is ready to welcome travellers back. |

| | | | | New grants for flood-damaged properties | The New South Wales Government will provide flood-impacted renters, landlords and homeowners with cash grants as part of a new $112 million Back Home grants scheme that will help make their homes safe and habitable again by contributing towards the cost of replacing appliances, reconnecting utilities and making necessary repairs. The program is available across the Hawkesbury, Ballina, Byron, Clarence Valley, Kyogle, Lismore, Richmond Valley and Tweed Local Government Areas. |
| | Western Australia Tourism Support Program deadline extended | The deadline for the $20 million Western Australia Tourism Support Program applications has been extended, with the program now open until 29 April. The program is for expenses incurred by eligible tourism businesses in preparation for the border reopening. Sole traders may be eligible for a one-off payment of $10,000 under this program, or $20,000 for employing businesses. |

| | | | Monarto Safari Park unveils extensive redevelopment of visitor centre | South Australia’s beloved Monarto Safari Park has opened the doors to its new Visitor Centre. From the moment guests drive through the park gate’s, the $11.25 million redevelopment transports them to a world unlike anything in Australia. Guests now drive through plains of Australian natives speckled with free-roaming African land mammals before reaching the refurbished visitor centre. With capacity for an additional 55,000 guests per year, the new centre overlooks the expansive Monarto property and houses a spacious retail store, refurbished cafe, exhibition room and children’s playground. The world’s largest open-range safari experience outside of Africa, Monarto Safari Park is located 1 hours’ drive east of Adelaide. |
| | Beloved Sydney café opens second venue in Bondi | Iconic Southern Shire brunch haunt, Blackwood Pantry has opened its second outpost in Bondi, Blackwood Bondi. Open seven days, the all-day menu tempts guests with Australian brunch fare profiling local produce. Under the lead of Michelin-star trained co-owner and executive chef, Robert Lechowicz, the casual eatery is also open evenings from Thursday to Saturday. The menu boasts an eclectic assortment of dishes, from nourish bowls and Moreton Bay Bug sandwiches to the operator’s beloved blueberry and ricotta hotcakes and Morning Glory with egg, chorizo and kale. | | | | Embrace the country charm at three Eden Valley winery BnB’s | Century-old Eden Valley winery, Brockenchack Wines has opened the doors to three luxe Bed and Breakfasts (BnBs) in the epicentre of one of South Australia’s most picturesque wine regions. Reimagining an 1880s cottage, the refurbished homestead is set on Brockenchack Estate’s 150-acre property that houses a working farm and vineyard. Ranging in size, the three BnBs consist of one, two and three bedrooms respectively. Guests are encouraged to relax in a property that features a sprawling wrap-around balcony, a private spa house, two open-air baths with views of the valley and spacious and cosily fitted country-style interiors. Blossoming to life with a tropical garden, Miss Midgley’s has been refurbished with an aesthetically pleasing guest pool and a range of event and function spaces.
