| | | | | TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE | Believe it or not, the first quarter of 2023 is now behind us, and as the year progresses, we are seeing some really encouraging signs for our industry. Of course, there are still challenges like aviation capacity and skills shortages, but international leisure visitation is growing, and face to face events are firmly embedding themselves in diaries around the world for the coming year and beyond. On Friday last week, it was an absolute pleasure to attended Qantas’ 100th birthday celebration in Sydney/Warrane with over a thousand guests, even if it was three years overdue because of covid restrictions. Qantas is an organisation which is deeply embedded in our nation’s history, and as our national carrier it will play a pivotal role in the full recovery of the Australian tourism industry. Here’s to the next 100, Qantas! It is just under a month until our premier leisure event, the 2023 Australia Tourism Exchange officially opens, bringing together Australian tourism product together with international travel buyers. This year, which marks the return to a more pre-COVID style format for ATE, we are excited to be hosting the event on the Gold Coast in partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland, from 30 April to 4 May 2023. Destination Gold Coast is a supporting partner of Tourism and Events Queensland for ATE23 and I look forward to seeing many of you there. | | | Japan’s popular Tabi Salad travel show back in Australia | The popular Japanese travel program Tabi Salad on ABC was in Australia last month with influencer and Tabi Salad reporter Enna Yamashiro. The weekly Saturday morning show will air six episodes from the visit, hosted by Tourism Australia’s International Media Hosting Program supported by Qantas Airways, Tourism Tasmania, Visit Victoria, Tourism and Events Queensland and Destination New South Wales. The series is expected to reach over 8 million weekly viewers nationwide in Japan. The program will showcase our welcoming and friendly Aussie people, laid-back culture, and natural beauty, as well as a variety of experiences including city life, food and drink and wildlife. Behind the scenes stories will be broadcast on the Tabi Salad Youtube channel each week. |
| | Business Events Australia Mega Famil Showcase | Fifty international planners and media from the Asia region were in Sydney this week as part of the Business Events Australia Asia Mega Famil Showcase. Representatives from Australia convention bureaux had the opportunity to meet with and present destination updates to international agents from across Asia region during the business session. Delegates also enjoyed a destination showcase of Sydney’s business events offering and latest infrastructure developments, delivered in partnership with host city partner Business Events Sydney. Following the Showcase guests will continue on post-famils across the country to experience first hand the wealth of new product available. |

| | | | | Flood affected areas supported by tourism initiative | South Australians have rallied in record numbers to support tourism operators impacted by the Murray River floods, with more than 139,000 people registering for the first round of South Australian Tourism Commission’s River Revival Vouchers. Flood affected operators in the Riverland and Murray River, Lakes and Coorong regions are already enjoying the benefits of the vouchers, with hundreds of bookings made within the first day of release and visitors travelling now. More than 139,000 people registered in the first of three River Revival Vouchers so far. |
| | Untamed Escapes launches more new experiences in iconic destinations | Tour operator Untamed Escapes has launched two exciting new adventure tours in Kangaroo Island and Uluru. Focusing on the island’s incredible nature and wildlife, the 3-Day Kangaroo Island Adventure Tour will commence in September, with two departures a week scheduled ongoing. Meanwhile the exhilarating 8 Day Adelaide - Uluru Camping Adventures (running in both directions) will hit the road this April, with fortnightly departures and take in iconic sites like Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, the Oodnadatta Track, and, of course, Uluru. |
