TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE

After reconnecting with our North American industry partners at Australia Marketplace North America 2022 last week, over the weekend the Tourism Australia US team and I met with our luxury travel partners at Virtuoso Travel Week.

The event kicked off on Saturday with around 500 travel advisors in attendance, and through our partnership opportunities and meetings Tourism Australia reaffirmed our strong commitment to the US market. We were able to showcase the many new and varied luxury experiences we have to offer this high yielding sector (who stay longer and spend more), and we also highlighted that the Aussie Specialist Program is now offering our Luxury, Indigenous and Sustainability modules.

What we are hearing from our North American partners, there is a strong appetite and demand for Australia, and we are confident we have what it takes to drive quality visitation back to Australia.

It was so good to meet face to face and it was the perfect chance to say to the US market we are open, we missed them, we can’t wait to see them Down Under, and to Come and Say G’day!

National Experience Content Initiative upskilling and support

Tourism Australia has partnered with Tourism Tribe to assist around 1,400 operators from 57 regions who participated in the National Experience Content Initiative (NECI) to make the most of their new video and image content. Through personalised coaching and a dedicated NECI online course library, operators can enhance their knowledge and apply new techniques to amplify their content assets across marketing, social and digital channels.
NECI is a $12 million content creation initiative aimed at supporting tourism businesses across Australia in their recovery and driving increased visitation by helping tourism businesses to better market their experiences and attractions.

ATEC’s ‘Tourism Trade Ready’ program
ATEC and Tourism Australia are announcing the release of the new ‘Tourism Trade Ready’ program this month. The training provides fundamental learning, knowledge, and skills for the Australian tourism industry with a commitment to trade effectively with the domestic and international marketplace. The national training program is delivered through a new interactive online platform where participants can learn at their own pace. The training includes the new ‘Australian Tourism Toolkit’ (the redeveloped Tourism Export Toolkit (TExT) guide). The Tourism Trade Ready program is free of charge for up to two employees of organisations who are ATEC members. Complete the Expression of Interest to stay informed of the release of the program.

Events Tasmania is committed to increasing the number of people coming to Tasmania, getting visitors and locals travelling around the state, and getting people talking and sharing about Tasmania. Congratulations to ATEC’s latest ‘Market Host’ graduates
ATEC congratulates the latest graduates who have completed the Muslim Host, Indonesia Host and India Host market specialist programs. These businesses have completed their training and are now able to display their ‘Host’ digital badges to show their readiness to service the market and grow their business opportunities. Businesses interested in future training opportunities can complete the Expression of Interest and select target markets of interest.

Central Sydney hotel unveils luxe multi-million redevelopment
The Sebel Quay West Suites Sydney has undergone a multi-million-dollar redevelopment. Overlooking Sydney Harbour, The Rocks and Circular Quay, Sebel Quay has already established its status as a stylish stay for travellers, but the all-encompassing revitalisation takes the ‘luxe-ness’ to new heights. The spacious guestrooms have been elevated with designer touches. Meanwhile, the on-site Quartier Bar & Bistro has undergone sophisticated retouching to complement the Parisian menu.
Regional NSW to host Broken Heel Festival in September
Inspired by the beloved film, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Broken Heel Festival is strapping on its heels and strutting into regional New South Wales this September. Running from 8 to 12 September, Broken Heel will amplify queer representation and inclusivity through profiling the nation’s best queer talents. Promising non-stop entertainment, the three-day festival features a Main Drag In Drag Street Parade. Multi-day passes are available to purchase.
GoGo Active Tours explores beyond the known in King’s Park
Perth-based GoGo Active Tours has launched two new guided bike tours through the picturesque city. Offering a choice of two tours, the GoGo Active team are determined that every traveller can learn about Kings Park’s amazing biodiversity, no matter their mobility. On the two-hour Pedals and Petals tour, guests travel via two wheeled bike or chauffeured rickshaw through remote areas of Kings Park bushland. Meanwhile, the Boab, Bikes & Bees tour explores the Park’s endemic animals and plant life, including resident native bees.
Ucles Wild Tours launches in the Top End with Finniss River experience
Travellers are being invited to have a wild time in the Top End with Ucles Wild Tours. Owned and operated by Andrew Ucles, the operator has launched with a three-day Re-Discover & Re-Wild on the Finniss River tour. Led by Andrew’s charisma, the experiences sees travellers explore the other-worldly Finniss River and discover the hidden personalities of the environment and its inhabitants. Participants can opt to sleep under the stars at Finniss River Station or spend their nights in luxury at the recently opened Finnis River Lodge. Ucles Wild Tours also offer custom experiences on request.
