| | | | | | | |  | | TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE | | It really was great to see so many of you at ATEC Meeting Place in Cairns last week, an event which was full of insights, partner meetings, and the graduation of the ATEC Elite program. Business events are well and truly coming back, as is our industry. In case you missed it as mentioned in Essentials last week, at the event, Tourism Australia released new research on future travel and tourism demand. The research examines 143 individual experiences across 20 markets, and if you haven’t had a chance to, I encourage you to visit our corporate site to find out more. As 2023 draws to a close, it’s time to remind you that registrations for Tourism Australia’s, Destination Australia conference are now open. The conference will be a hybrid event with both in person and online attendance available. Joining the webinar will be the Chief Executive Officer of Ecotourism Australia, Elissa Keenan to talk about the Strive 4 Sustainability Scorecard partnership. Tourism Australia’s, Managing Director, Phillipa Harrison will also be talking to Andrew Hogg, Executive General Manager, Aviation and Eastern Markets to hear an update on China and aviation, and Eva Seller Regional General Manager for Continental Europe to talk about some emerging opportunities in that part of the world. Travel + Leisure India & South Asia held the 11th edition of its annual flagship property - the readers’ choice India’s Best Awards to celebrate the best in the travel, hospitality, and lifestyle industries, at a ceremony held in New Delhi. |  | | Aussie Specialist Program wins in the United Kingdom (UK) | | Tourism Australia’s Aussie Specialist Program recently won the ‘Star E-Learning Programme’ award at the Star Awards, hosted by Travel Bulletin. The awards celebrate gold standard practice in the travel industry and are voted for by key agent partners from across the UK. Testament to its innovative design and agent-friendly content, Tourism Australia’s Aussie Specialist Program, which re-launched in 2021, beat six other industry e-learning platforms to win the award. |

The ATE23 Media Program will be held on the Gold Coast by Tourism Australia in partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland and supported by Destination Gold Coast from 28 April to 1 May 2023, bringing together key international media from Tourism Australia’s key markets around the world with Australian tourism businesses, special interest operators, attractions, and accommodation providers at the International Media Marketplace, powered by TravMedia. | | | | |  | | Supporting tourism and accommodation providers to set their own prices | | Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator the Hon Don Farrell, and Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury, Andrew Leigh, recently announced that the Government will commence consultation to understand if online booking platforms are restricting the ability of tourism and accommodation providers to set their own prices, and to identify if any action is required to address this. During the consultation period, 25 November to 6 January, Australian tourism and accommodation providers, online booking platforms and other stakeholders are invited to provide written submissions on their views. Study NSW is partnering with employment marketplace SEEK to deliver NSW Jobs Connect for International Students. The former site of Pontoon has been given a new lease on life with an all-day Mediterranean styled venue helmed Frank Van Handel's two sons Hugh and Pete van Haandel. The pasta-led menu features plates of every size including tortellini with spinach, ricotta and pine nuts and spaghetti with crab and chili. Open seven days, the venue features a bespoke cocktail menu which includes a signature Stokehouse Spritz featuring Amaro, white peach, jasmine soda and orange. |

Flooded with pastel colouring, the 16-room boutique coastal lodging has been styled and built by Sydney/Warrane-based Knox Developments and interior design and architecture practice, Richards Stanisich. Offering a mix of three, two, and one-bedroom apartments and several king suites, Motel Molly’s rooms are detailed with retro stylings, some rooms have the added luxury of Moroccan-style sunken baths. | | |  | | Kahlo and Rivera to be showcased at the AGSA in 2023 | | An Australian-exclusive exhibition, Frida and Diego: Love and Revolution will open at the Art Gallery of South Australia on 24 June 2023. A showcase of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, the exhibition will unite the iconic works by two of the most influential and loved artists of the twentieth century in an exploration of their sustained influence on culture and art. Alongside works by Kahlo and Rivera themselves, the exhibition will delve into Mexican modernism through a showcase of over 150 paintings, photographer, clothing items and other works from other revered artistic contemporaries. |
|  | | Historic Indigenous Land Use Agreement signed at El Questro resort | | A landmark 99-year lease agreement has been signed between the Wilinggin Aboriginal Corporation (WAC) and the Western Australian Government which will see over 165,000 hectares of land at El Questro returned to the Country’s traditional owners. Under the Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA), the Wanjina Wungurr Wilinggin people have leased the El Questro Wilderness Park in the Kimberley to Australia’s largest regional accommodation, The G’day Group, for an extended 99-year term. The arrangement is the first land deal struck between a government, a local Indigenous corporation and a private business. |
