| | | | | TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE | Now that Australia is open for business, our international engagement program is full steam ahead. With less than a week to go until the Australian Tourism Exchange 2022 (ATE22) kicks off, Tourism Australia can’t wait to welcome international buyers back to Sydney/Warrane. The event, in its 42nd year, is being delivered in partnership with Destination NSW, and will bring together over 500 buyers from 34 countries and close to 550 Australian sellers. ATE Live will take place from 15 to 18 May and will be followed by ATE Online from 24 to 26 May for any buyers and sellers who are unable to travel to Sydney. In addition to more than 38,000 appointments that will take place during the event, there will be plenty of opportunities to reconnect with industry colleagues at networking events throughout the program. | | | | Responsible Tourism Project | Tourism Australia is conducting a research project on the impact of tourism on the local environment, community, and culture. The feedback will help tailor communications for travellers in specific regions to educate and encourage responsible and respectful travel. Now more than ever, it is critical to have a proactive approach for how the tourism sector, its partners, and stakeholders face the future positively and sustainably. Australian tourism operators are invited to complete the responsible tourism survey by 20 May 2022. |

| | | North American advisors learn about selling Australia at GTM West | Top travel advisors from across western North America learned about selling Australia and its experience offerings at the annual GTM West (Global Travel Marketplace) held 2 to 4 May, in Tucson, Arizona. Tourism Australia met with 90 influential travel advisors through face-to-face meetings and boardroom sessions, updating them on entry requirements and the advantages of joining the Aussie Specialist Program. GTM West was a great opportunity to network, share ideas and create new strategic partnerships with advisors, while spreading the message that Australia is open and welcoming travellers. |
| | Tourism Australia connects with top North American advisors at A&K 100 Club | Tourism Australia met with prestigious travel advisors from the United States and Canada at luxury travel company Abercrombie & Kent’s A&K 100 Club held in Chicago, last month. It was attended by agencies representing the top third of luxury leisure sales and cater to high value travellers. The biennial, invitation-only event gave advisors an opportunity to learn about Australia’s offerings, including the Signature Experiences of Australia. Additionally, Tourism Tasmania was a sponsor and delivered an inspirational destination session. |

| | | | Adelaide/Tarndanya to host major hotel conference for third year running | The Australasian Hotel Industry Conference and Exhibition (AHICE) will return to Adelaide in 2023 – its third consecutive year. It’s a ‘hat trick’ coup for the recovery of South Australia’s $2 billion conference sector. The announcement came as AHICE 2022 wrapped up last week, hosting 1,200 delegates from over 40 countries around the world – discussing the direction of the hotel sector in Australia, the Asia-Pacific and across the world. |
| | $20 million in electric vehicle charging grants to drive New South Wales regional tourism | Up to 3,500 electric vehicle (EV) chargers will be rolled out across regional New South Wales (NSW), with the State Government offering $20 million in grants to establish Australia’s largest destination charging network. The EV destination charging grants will be offered on a co-funded basis for the purchase and installation of EV chargers in regional areas. A range of destinations across regional NSW can apply for the grants, including motels, wineries, cafes, restaurants, natural attractions, visitor information centres, museums, and zoos. Intrepid Travel will invest an additional $7.85m into CABN allowing the business to build an additional 70 off-grid sustainable cabins around Australia by 2023. The investment will boost CABN’s annual room nights from 4,000 to 26,000 nationally and help the business craft exciting new minimalist escapes including the recently announced co-production in partnership with the Hans Heysen Foundation at the Cedars in Hanhdorf and a product alongside the Cooloola Great Walk. |

| | | | NGV Friday Nights series returns as an ode to the art of Picasso | As a celebration of the National Gallery of Victoria’s world premier exhibition, The Picasso Century, the gallery has announced the return of the NGV Friday Nights showcase. Running in conjunction with the exhibition, from 10 June to 7 October, the NGV will come to life with live-performances and DJ sets. Key performers include NGAIIRE & Kia, Emma Donovan and the Putbacks & Zjoso and more. The Friday Nights series will see the NGV’s Garden Restaurant transformed into a pop-up Spanish inspired bar open from 6pm until late featuring a bespoke menu designed by executive chef Matt McConnell. |
| | The spoils of the Top End come to life at the Taste of Kakadu | Next week, the sights, sounds and flavours of the world’s oldest living culture will come to life at the Northern Territory’s Taste of Kakadu. A showcase of native bush foods and Indigenous culture, Taste of Kakadu will be held at Kakadu National Park from Friday 20 May to Sunday 29 May 2022. Across nine days, visitors will feast on delectable twists of ancient cuisines and Kakadu staples including crocodile, barramundi, buffalo and the iconic Kakadu plums.
