| | | | | TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE | This week sees a wind back of the some of the restriction easing we had been enjoying. I know this has been tough for many of you who were taking new bookings and now have to cancel or delay them again. Our recovery is going to peppered with setbacks like this but the good thing is that demand for travel remains high. We are continuing with our national partnerships to help convert this demand. All offers have built in flexibility and are converting well. Our latest partnership, announced below, is with Virtuoso. Virtuoso have been a great partner of ours for many years in international markets, particularly the United States, and we are excited to work with them to showcase our incredible experiences to their frequent Australian travellers. Finally, we have a raft of resources available on Tourism Australia’s corporate site, including a domestic edition of our Working with Tourism Australia guide. | | | New regional partnership with Virtuoso | Tourism Australia has launched a new regional 18-month partnership with luxury consortia network Virtuoso. The national campaign running through to December 2021 has a strong focus on trade engagement and education across Virtuoso’s network of 1,300 premium travel advisors in Australia and New Zealand. The campaign profiles the Aussie Specialist Program, Signature Experiences of Australia collectives and the expansion of a new regionally preferred product network. In alignment with There’s Nothing Like Australia, the partnership aims to shine the light on Australia’s tourism offerings across all states and territories, driving a domestic-led premium recovery and a longer term shift in the perception of Australia as a luxury holiday destination. |
| | Australia's adventure experiences on show | Australian experiences were recently showcased to 75 North American adventure travel advisors at the Virtuoso Adventure Travel Community event. The advisors were trained virtually on soft adventure experiences with a focus on the Signature Experiences of Australia collectives. Group appointments were kept small and intimate to allow for in-depth training and to develop stronger connections with advisors. The Virtuoso Adventure Travel Community brings together advisors and partners with a shared passion for adventure and active travel experiences, including those focused on nature, exploration of unique cultures, and physical activities. |

| | World Travel and Tourism Council Insurance Guidelines | The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has released new insurance guidelines for travel and tourism. The guidelines aim to promote consistent standards across the insurance industry with an increased focus on health and safety in line with what travellers need and expect. The guidelines include information on travel and health insurance, employee coverage and property and casualty insurance. | | | | | Brisbane Festival will return with a bold new local program for 2020 | Brisbane Festival will return in September with a new uplifting program including giant outdoor installations, street concerts, suburban symphonies and a new light and laser installation. The three-week long festival will aim to bring joy to every corner of the city with 490 performances across 91 events, 73 of which are free. Supporting the local arts industry, 28 new works have been commissioned especially for the festival and over 700 local artists will also be employed. Running from Friday 4 to Saturday 6 September, the full program and tickets are available online now. |
| | Carriageworks ready to welcome back Sydneysiders | Carriageworks Sydney is set to reopen to the public this week. Visitors will be offered free access to a range of visual art installations by leading Australian and international artists, including eight new commissions as part of the 22nd Biennale of Sydney, a major exhibition by Giselle Stanborough and public artwork by Reko Rennie. The ever-popular weekly Farmers Market will also resume, providing farm-fresh produce for weekend shoppers. With new safety measures in place, Carriageworks will reopen on Friday 7 August with the new opening hours of Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm. The weekly Carriageworks Farmers Market will resume as a shop-and-go service on Saturday 8 August, 8am to 1pm. |

| | | | New beachfront villas set to open on Rottnest Island | Rottnest Island will soon welcome its latest luxury accommodation offering, with Samphire Rottnest due to open in October 2020. Situated on Thomson Bay, the 80 room architecturally designed accommodation offers 64 generous guest rooms with 16 spacious rooms positioned at the front of the property, all with private balconies and views overlooking Thomson Bay. Named after the native samphire plants found on the island, the hotel encourages guests to immerse themselves in the natural elements of the island. Bookings for Samphire Rottnest can be made now for October 2020 onwards. Keen travellers are also encouraged to sign up to their website to access exclusive presale offers. |
| | The Great Barrier Reef underwater art museum opens | Stage one of the Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA) in Townsville North Queensland has officially opened to travellers with tours now available. Comprising of a series of installations by renowned underwater sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, MOUA is located at four different sites along the Reef: The Coral Greenhouse at John Brewer Reef; Ocean Siren, a sculpture off the coast of Townsville; and two other pieces, which are still under construction, at Palm and Magnetic Islands. A beautiful blend of art, science, and culture, Adrenalin Dive Townsville and Yongala Dive Burdekin are now offering snorkel and dive tours to the underwater Coral Green House installation. More tours with SeaLink Queensland, Pro Dive Magnetic Island and Orpheus Island Resort will be coming soon. |
