On Monday we were incredibly excited to celebrate the milestone our industry has been waiting almost two years for, the reopening of international borders. At Tourism Australia we are so excited to be welcoming back international visitors, who will inject a new lease of life to our operators and their communities, as we all begin the road to recovery. We know Australia remains an incredibly desirable destination, and so far, the response internationally across our key markets has been extremely positive. | | | Australia strengthens tourism ties with India | Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, the Hon. Dan Tehan MP and India’s Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, renewed the Australia-India Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tourism Cooperation in New Delhi recently. The MoU aims to help encourage more Indian visitors to Australia and the capabilities of Australian tourism businesses. Both governments will also work with airlines and airports to boost aviation capacity between Australia and India. The signing comes at an opportune time with Australia set to host the coveted ICC T20 Cricket World Cup later this year, which is expected to attract a high number of cricket enthusiasts from India. | | Reopening Australia – BHV Activation France | To celebrate the reopening of Australia’s international borders, Tourism Australia had a special surprise for Parisians. Timed with the Australia promotion with Parisian luxury department store BHV Marais, visitors could win a voucher for a cup of coffee at the Australian pop-up coffee bar Fitzroy. Hostesses distributed 600 Welcome Back flyers to announce Australia’s reopening, offered 250 coffee vouchers to those who successful completed the quiz, offered 500 bouquets of eucalyptus flowers. The activation encouraged Parisians passing through the store to take part in the competition to win a trip to Australia with Singapore Airlines. |

| | | | Save the date for Australia Marketplace 2022 | Australia Marketplace 2022 is designed to provide an opportunity for the Australian tourism industry to build relationships with global product planners and travel decision makers. In 2022, Tourism Australia will host three Australia Marketplace events; Australia Marketplace North America from 7 to 10 August; Australia Marketplace Japan/South Korea from 26 to 30 September; and Australia Marketplace UK/Europe from 14 to 16 November. Participation fees will be in line with past Marketplace events and further information including key dates will be shared over the coming months. |
| | Work and Play the Aussie Way Industry Toolkit and video update | Tourism Australia has released an Industry Toolkit and video update to support its Work and Play the Aussie Way campaign. Work and Play the Aussie Way invites Working Holiday Makers to Australia by showcasing to young people all the adventures and experiences they could have while working and travelling in Australia. It was announced following the new measures to incentivise fully vaccinated student and Working Holiday Maker visa holders to travel to Australia, to help address critical workforce shortages caused by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. | | Singapore Airlines confirms Cairns will join its global network | Singapore Airlines (SIA) has confirmed Cairns will officially become part of the SIA global passenger network from 28 March 2022. Prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, SIA’s regional wing, SilkAir, operated daily services to the Queensland holiday hotspot and gateway to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. With the integration of SilkAir into SIA in 2021, the route will become the sixth Australian destination in the SIA global network. |

| | | | Nostalgic new Rottnest Fast Ferries tour sets sail | Iconic tour operator, Rottnest Fast Ferries has launched the nostalgic The Best of Rotto – The Local Experience package. The full day tour includes return ferry transfers from Hillary’s Boat Harbour and access to a pushbike so travellers can explore the beauty of Rottnest Island’s 63 beaches. While making the most of Rottnest Island, travellers will also be tempted by local delicacies such as Cray Dog from the beloved The Lane Café, a famous Simmo’s ice cream and locally roasted coffee. Since launching in 2012, Rottnest Fast Ferries has been Western Australia’s only locally owned and operated ferry company and now employs over 45 people. |
| | Eco-focused female start-up In2thewild receives a funding boost | Locally owned eco-wellness female-founded start-up, In2thewild has been awarded a grant as part of the Boosting Female Founders Initiative. The grant will allow owners Celeste Giannas and Natasha Weir to continue to support visitation to rural communities. In January this year, the operator introduced a selection of new tiny houses in regional NSW and Victoria including Jim, Nancy and Georgie. Since 2017, more than 15,000 guests have stayed at In2thewild’s over 40 secluded escapes that are purely powered by the sun and designed to help travellers connect with nature. |
