Welcome to 2025

Well, what a year 2024 turned out to be for the ETF industry. BlackRock’s note on the end November ETF asset flow figures reported that 2024 was on track to be a record year for global ETP flows, with USD1.6 trillion added YTD, surpassing the record USD1.3 trillion of inflows in 2021.

We will be bringing you all the stories on the end 2024 asset flows figures as they come in, but, over the holidays, we kept bringing you the news and features. In terms of people who have moved companies, we published interviews with Doug Yones in his new job at Direxion, alongside Ed Egilinsky, Direxion’s Managing Director and Head of Sales, Distribution and Alternatives, and CBOE Europe’s new hire, Hetal Patel as director of ETF listings.

We also spoke with Smith Capital’s Ryan Duffy, co-head of business development at the firm, on their active ETF range and with Laton Spahr and Paul Baiocchi of SS&C Alps Advisors on their impressive asset growth.

And we have numbers of our own to celebrate – did you catch our 2024 Wrapped video on the ETF Express home page, which summarised our year of events, awards and news? That was a lot of stories, podcasts and canapes.

News over the holidays came from Luxembourg which has introduced a number of measures designed to make the launch of active ETFs and active ETF share classes in the domicile more attractive. We will have an interview on that subject coming up over the next few weeks.

And, of course, January means just one thing for the European ETF service provider community. We have opened the nominations stage for European ETF service providers ahead of the European awards, which this year will be held on 20th March in London. Get nominating for your favourite firms now by following this link.

Voting will open on the nominated firms and the issuer categories on 27th January.
