ETF fees remain under pressure

We take a look at ETF fees this week, examining the various approaches to them. Zero fee or fee waivered ETFs are dismissed as a gimmick but low fees are universally seen to be a good thing. However, in a week that saw more consolidation in the asset management industry, with Franklin Templeton’s acquisition of Legg Mason, it is timely to remember that only the larger firms can offer the lowest fees. For investors to have variety of product, smaller providers need to be in the mix too.

And what a week it was for that with Rize ETF’s – Europe’s newest ETF provider – bringing us medical cannabis and cybersecurity, and HANetf and the Royal Mint bringing us gold.

We also have an interview with Rick Redding of the Index Industry Association, who comments on how difficult it is to create ESG indices that have real worth, which sits nicely alongside Claire Smith, from Beyond Investing’s VEGAN index, writing on the huge variety of ESG indices out there.

Finally, I am very pleased to announce that ETF Express is to host its inaugural event, etfLIVE Europe in London on 20 May. Please go to this landing page to find out everything you need to know and to register your interest in attending, speaking or sponsoring…
