ETFs in Europe hit 20 during exciting times

This bumper issue of features from ETF Express comes due to the extended Easter holiday last weekend, but also because there is so much to write about in the ETF world at the moment.

The first interviews are with a firm that pushes the envelope in ETFs, Innovator, which has raised close to another USD1 billion in its range of defined outcome ETFs. Read how the firm has traded through the early 2020’s volatile markets.

Volatile markets have kept Tradeweb busy. The automated ETF trading platform has seen record volumes this year, with March figures showing a record average daily volume (ADV) of USD1.0 trillion in aggregate for the month of March 2020, an increase of 41.5 per cent year over year.

We also have interviews with Bloomberg’s Ben Morris, ETF Product Manager, who tells ETF Express about the firm’s BSKT offering, and a Q&A comment from EMEA head of iShares, Stephen Cohen on the 20th anniversary of ETFs in Europe. Allan Lane, from Algo-Chain, our regular columnist also celebrates the 20th anniversary in his piece this week – an excellent read from someone who has seen our industry evolve over the years.

Finally, we went in search of sectors that perform when everyone is stuck at home – I bring you JP Lee, Product Manager with VanEck, who talks us through ESPO, the firm’s online gaming and esports ETF.

For all things ETF, please register to join our etfLIVE digital summit in May, now to be held over three days and giving you all the experience of a physical conference from the comfort of your own home. Find out more here.

In a world driven by stochastic hares and deterministic tortoises what have we learnt since the launch of SPY?

As the speed of tech driven change accelerated during those two decades, and each one of us constantly refreshed our RAM, our ability to remember the past seems to have gone by the wayside.  Add to that another seven years when the SPDR S&P 500 Trust ETF was first listed on the New York Stock Exchange – can any of us ever truly remember how it was back in the good old days?
