Good evening. There is more trouble brewing for Heathrow and its third runway plans with one of its biggest backers, Virgin Atlantic, announcing that it would be withdrawing support due to an ongoing dispute over the cost of flying from the UK’s largest airport. This latest falling out comes as no surprise with Heathrow recently clashing with Richard Branson after the airport’s authority announced it had plans to limit Christmas flights. Branson said he would be “extremely upset” if the limit was imposed. “They’ve had a lot of time to get sorted – I’d be really pissed off if there were capacity cuts,” he said. So maybe this is a good time to look at a no-fly break (and one without even needing your car!), taking inspiration from Phoebe Taplin’s trip to Suffolk’s Shotley peninsula where she steps into a Constable landscape of autumnal hues spying oystercatchers and migrating geese. Elsewhere, follow in the footsteps of Adharanand Finn as he tackles the world’s most famous trail race and board the Istanbul-Sofia Express with Lonely Planet’s Tom Hall. | Nazia Parveen Assistant travel editor | |
