INDUSTRY NEWS

NATIONAL: From April 24 to 26, Katie Dunlop of Love Sweat Fitness is hosting a virtual wellness festival dubbed Stay Well Weekend, featuring sweat-focused workouts, inspiring panels, virtual happy hours, and more—all led by the country's top fitness and wellness influencers (like Atlanta-based fitness instructor Mark Anthony Cuevas of Netflix's Love Is Blind fame).

On May 2, Create & Cultivate will play host to the Money Moves Summit, a stay-at-home digital summit for small business owners, entrepreneurs, and creatives. Virtual attendees can expect keynote speakers and panelists from various key industries like entertainment, tech/startup, travel, fashion, and beauty, such as Chelsea Handler, Shay Mitchell, Bobby Berk, Alli Webb, and more. In an effort to help those in industries who have been most affected by COVID-19, the proceeds of ticket sales will go to a $10,000 small business grant for one small business owner.

The National Spelling Bee has been canceled for the first time since 1945. The 2021 event is scheduled for June 1 to 3.

CHICAGO: Today at 1 p.m. CT/11 a.m. PT, BizBash editors Claire Hoffman and Ashton Pike will co-host a virtual discussion, dubbed "Conversations from the Inside: Ideas, Insights, and Resources for Chicago Amid COVID-19." Hoffman and Pike will chat with industry leaders—including Tom Kehoe of Kehoe Designs, The Geraghty, BlackOak Technical Productions & Floral Exhibits; Megan Williams of Field Museum; Lanie Hartman of BBJ Linen; and Jack Scafide of CORT Events—about the impact of coronavirus in the Chicago market, new strategies moving forward, and more. Register here!

TORONTO: Luminato Festival CEO Anthony Sargent has announced his resignation, effective May 31. Sargent, a Great Britain native who assumed the Toronto role five years ago, stated he wanted to return to his family and country. Celia Smith, who has held a number of high-profile arts and culture positions, including president of Artscape and general manager of the Canadian Stage Company, will take his place as interim CEO.
