| LSU opened spring practice Thursday, and we began to learn about Brian Kelly's first team here. Kelly took an interesting approach during practice, one that let him keep his eyes on multiple positions. He was pleased with what he saw, though he knows no one can draw any firm conclusions from the first day of spring practice. At the very least, LSU has a healthy team right now. There were only two scholarship players who couldn't participate in some fashion, Kelly said. One of them, junior wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, wore a walking boot as he recovers from a second surgery on his right ankle. Speaking of Boutte, our Scott Rabalais sifted through the tea leaves to understand Kelly's comments this week about Boutte. That's all on spring practice for now. Before anything else, we have to recognize LSU swimmer Brooks Curry. He won a national championship in the 50 freestyle Thursday, the first national title for an LSU swimmer since 1988. Meanwhile, two LSU men's basketball players entered the transfer portal the day after the introduction of new coach Matt McMahon. Both of them said they'll consider LSU, but don't be surprised if more players consider their options. McMahon has a lot of work to do with this program. But he has a plan, which Sheldon Mickles detailed. Meanwhile, the LSU baseball team left for a series at Florida. After using seven relievers during a midweek loss, how will the Tigers handle the bullpen? We have a breakdown of the situation. Over at softball, third baseman Danieca Coffey has stepped into a crucial role in the order, and she's on fire. Here's how Coffey become the player batting .423 with the sixth-most hits in the country. Lastly, two more football notes because, well, it's LSU. The Tigers picked up a verbal commitment Thursday from one of the top tight ends in class of 2023, and former linebacker Damone Clark received some difficult news.
