  John Ullyot, one of the top aides to Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin, actively lobbied to have key members of Congress demand Shulkin's resignation, two sources with knowledge of the effort told USA TODAY. Ullyot called a top aide to the House Veterans Affairs Committee to ask him to persuade lawmakers to call the White House and say they wanted Shulkin out after a critical inspector general's report on Shulkin's travel. Ullyot denies it happened. The sources said he made the request during a call initiated by Curt Cashour, the VA press secretary. The effort failed.
