Good morning,

Welcome to Thursday's newsletter from The Scotsman.

Today we're continuing to dig into a Scottish Government intervention in delaying the release of critical Covid-19 death rates in individual care homes.

Earlier this month, The Scotsman revealed a last-gasp intervention from Nicola Sturgeon's administration involving former economy secretary Fiona Hyslop led to the delay of the publication of the number of Covid-19 deaths in each of Scotland’s care homes for more than three-and-a-half months and until after the Holyrood election in May.

Lions Tour 2021: Most Scots in a Lions Test team for 24 years

Who is ready for the first of the Lions' South Africa tests?

This tour the British and Irish Lions have named the most Scots in their starting line-up in a Test match for 24 years.

Coach Warren Gatland described it as the hardest selection meeting he’d ever been in but when the dust settled his team for the first Test against South Africa contained three starters from Scotland and another two among the replacements.

'Scotland needs to sort out its ferry problem'

In our opinion section today Kenny MacAskill MP ruminates on the state of Scotland's ferries.

"Service failures at sea are being compounded by wider failures on land. How the debacle at Ferguson Marine has been allowed to develop beats me. Why the construction of vital ships should go to yards abroad or repairs to the Mersey staggers me," writes Mr MacAskill.

Do you agree? Are our ferry services not up to scratch and letting down island communities? Have your say in the article comments.
