It’s been a year since “Friends” star Matthew Perry was found unresponsive in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home after an afternoon of playing pickleball. His loved ones, who witnessed his drug and alcohol abuse for years, sat down with the “TODAY” show’s Savannah Guthrie to discuss the heartbreak of what his mother described as an unavoidable outcome.

“There was an inevitability to what was going to happen next to him,” Suzanne Perry said.
