Bailey Sharp was described as an "easygoing" child, but she struggled with a range of health problems that her parents say drove her to alcohol and drugs. Sharp seemed to improve after stints at a rehabilitation facility, but she later turned back to heroin after moving in with someone she was dating, Jared Bischoff.

According to a prosecutor, Bischoff devised a plan to murder his estranged wife and her new partner and convinced Sharp to help. What followed was another gruesome murder that left Sharp dead. Her parents wondered for years how their daughter could have played a role in a murder and be a victim at the same time.
