William Calloway, who has held the post since 2002, will step down in 2020. The S.C. native oversaw the completion of the $23.5 million Windows to New Worlds project in 2014.

S.C. records first flu death of the season

The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control confirmed Thursday that an Upstate resident has died of complications from the flu. The agency recommends getting a flu vaccine.

Aquarium company establishes operations center at MTC

Aquarium Partners, based in France, is establishing its U.S. operational center at the Midlands Technical College Enterprise Campus in Northeast Columbia. 

S.C. metro areas see slight growth in construction jobs

In South Carolina, employment gains from September 2018 to September 2019 were minimal in metropolitan areas. Columbia gained 400 jobs, a 2% growth rate. 

COMET offering free bus rides to local groups

Columbia College, Allen University and Lexington Medical Center have been added to a partnership that already included Nephron Pharmaceuticals and several school districts. The COMET is also opening a park-and-ride lot in Chapin.

Prepare to pay shift workers for extra hour 

With Daylight Saving Time ending at 2 a.m. Sunday, people who work overnight shifts will work the 1 a.m. hour twice and must be paid for an extra hour of work, according to federal law.
