Explore the Best of Germany

Anything that ever made it big is bound to attract some stereotypes, and Germany is no exception. Beer, crazy deaf composers, robotic efficiency, sausage, Inglourious Basterds -- just to name a few. Germany has some of the best collections of art in the world, incredible architecture, and a history that makes it clear no one bosses Germany around.

1. Berlin

You've probably heard that Berlin is the coolest city in the world, or that it has one of the best clubs in Europe, or that it sleeps when the sun comes up. Well, don't believe the hype. It's not the coolest city in the world; it's several of the coolest cities in the world. It doesn't have one of the best clubs in Europe; it has 10. And to top it off, Berlin never sleeps. Read more here!

2. Munich

If you ask the average traveler about this Bavarian capital, you'll hear beer, beer, and more beer. The birthplace of Oktoberfest, Munich is the third largest in Germany and one of country's most expensive. Less worthy of celebration, Hitler's first attempt to seize power took place in Munich, and the Führer spoke at some of the very beer halls you can visit today. Today, Munich has put most of this history behind it, and has become the center of European commerce, with world-class museums, parks, and architecture. Read more here!
3. Frankfurt
When you think of Germany, do you imagine timber houses, cobblestones and castles, Lederhosen, or Oktoberfest? Forget all that: Frankfurt has none of it. Allied bombs destroyed Frankfurt's Old European style, and all that remains is "Mainhaten," a local slang term for the city that references its location on the Main River and its utter domination by banking and skyscrapers.
