Our Photo of the Month goes to photographer Tomis Filipovic for this image of T19C Spouter (left) and T49A3 Nat (right) pictured in the Salish Sea. One of the easiest ways to identify individual orca whales is by looking at their dorsal fins, which can be easily seen in this image. The framing and overall composition of this photograph make it a visually appealing shot, with the rainbow positioned in the far left and the horizon placed just below the middle of the frame.

Other photos we featured in December included a shaking grizzly captured by Keri Fisher in the Chilko River, B.C. and a pensive polar bear captured by Karthik Subramaniam in Churchill, M.B.

Each Monday, our editors choose a new Photo of the Week to feature as the cover photo on our Facebook and X accounts. We share it on Instagram, too!

Your image could be featured in Canadian Geographic!

Canadian Geographic's editorial team often sources photographs from the Photo Club for digital and print articles—anything from walrus in Canada's north (like the image on the left captured by Bruce Raby) to jellyfish in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
