Dear Clients and Business Partners, Extraordinary situations require extraordinary measures – Based on Art. 7 of the Epidemics Act the Federal Council has announced numerous measures over the past few days that are intended to provide financial support to both employers and employees as well as self-employed individuals, to grant loans to companies and to facilitate short-time work applications for employers. Such measures are necessary because the coronavirus is still omnipresent and has an impact on the global economy more than ever. In Switzerland, businesses, schools and other institutions remain (partially) closed and other, more restrictive measures for entire sectors have already been announced. Overall demand has stagnated or even decreased in both the industrial and service sectors. The requests for financial support are piling up; the applications for short-time work alone increase by several thousand every day. This Legal Alert provides an updated overview of the latest labor law related measures as of April 1, 2020 and in particular of the new rules regarding short-time work.
