FAA extension expected to last until year-end

With just 11 working days remaining for the US Congress to pass legislation reauthorizing the FAA, industry observers are expecting the most likely path forward to be another short-term extension that would last through the end of the year. 


Aegean Airlines reduces 1H losses on strong demand, tourism

Greek carrier Aegean Airlines reported a 2018 first-half net loss of €13.8 million ($16 million), narrowed from a net loss of €20 million in 1H 2017.

Belgium’s VLM Airlines goes into liquidation

Belgian carrier VLM Airlines went into liquidation Aug. 31, the second European regional airline to dissolve last week after Swiss regional SkyWork Airlines ceased operations Aug. 29.


Ryanair accuses NATS of discrimination at Stansted

Irish LCC Ryanair has accused UK air traffic control (ATC) provider NATS of discriminating in the supply of staffing at its London Stansted Airport base, leading to greater delays and favoring the city’s larger Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

Wataniya Airways partially suspends operations as lessor disputes claims

Kuwaiti carrier Wataniya Airways has “partially suspended” operations, citing technical problems with its aircraft and blaming a Greek lessor for difficulties that led to a sharp reprimand Aug. 25 from the Kuwaiti regulator.


KLM, Dutch pilots agree on labor deal

Netherlands-based pilots union VNV said it has reached a deal in principle on a new collective labor agreement with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and would not plan any more strikes while awaiting approval from its members’ council.

Air China to sell 51% stake in cargo subsidiary on competition concerns
