Is tax fairness the new black? “For three decades Canadians have been fed a steady diet of anti-tax rhetoric, says Dennis Howlett of the Canadian Coalition for Tax Fairness. “Now they’re starting to push back against conservative and business groups that have championed tax cuts and undermined public services, says Howlett, “The newly formed coalition of unions, advocacy and student groups has come to the defence of the government’s proposed changes that would close tax loopholes increasingly used by high-income Canadians. “But the bigger goal is to end the outsize role of special interest groups and launch a full debate on tax reform and fairness, Howlett says.” Story here. — Jeremy Nuttall |
