Families for the Lonely

K.A. Ellis was single until she was 42 years old. But when she looks back on that season of her life, she doesn’t see a woman who was all alone. She sees a woman who was blessed to experience what Psalm 68:6 describes as God placing the lonely in families.

“I was so blessed with the riches of families along my walk [who] always made space for me in their homes, in their families,” says Ellis. Now, as someone who has been married for over a decade, Ellis wants to carry on the “discipleship tradition” of welcoming people into her home, daily life, and family.

On a new episode of Viral Jesus, Ellis and host Heather Thompson Day talk about the unexpected ways that God brings his people together. They explore the plight of single women and consider what it means to truly include them in the life of the church.

Whether we dwell in houses bursting at the seams with family members or we live in a home for one, may we live as those who trust that God loves to place the lonely in families. And may we seek out opportunities to be part of that beautiful truth.
