Fasting For God’s Kingdom

Our neighbors and close friends are Muslim and they’re about to start fasting for Ramadan. I’m always a little convicted by their month-long fast. I once tried a 30-hour famine—and surrendered to a cheeseburger after 18 hours. Though I don’t share their beliefs, I’m moved by their devotion.

Alexander E. Massad had a similar experience while living in Jordan. And he actually fasted during Ramadan as an example of his Christian faith. The profound lessons he learned about hunger, desire, and prayer are well worth your time. Read: Fasting for God’s Kingdom.
