What would you do if you saw Tim Cook randomly lifting weights at a gym one day?

Would you ask him a question? Would you pitch him a product? Would you just let the poor man go about his self-care routine with a bit of quiet dignity?

This was exactly the conundrum faced by Philip Winter, the president of the award-winning, eco showerhead company Nebia, back in 2014. It’s long been known that Tim Cook was an early investor in Nebia. But it was only last week when Winter told me the story of just how he convinced Cook to be his company’s first angel investor.

I’d always assumed Cook invested through family networking or old-money handshakes. Instead? It was because of a chance encounter at a gym—and a comedy of (shower) errors that happened next.
