Dear John,

Today, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, also known as Candlemas.

Regarding this event, Pope St. John Paul II said, “In the mysterious encounter between Simeon and Mary, the Old and New Testaments are joined. Together the aging prophet and the young mother give thanks for this Light which has kept the darkness from prevailing.”

If you would like to learn more about this feast, we hope you will visit our online resource that discusses several questions about the Presentation of the Lord, such as:

  • Why is the Presentation of Jesus important?
  • Why is it called Candlemas Day?
  • Who are Simeon and Anna?

While you’re on the page, you can sign up for a free eBook, The Scriptural Rosary: The Joyful Mysteries, which provides ten Scripture passages for each one of the Joyful Mysteries. Through this eBook, we hope that you will be able to better meditate on each Hail Mary and deepen your understanding of Sacred Scripture.

May God bless you on this Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.

In Christ,
