This ivory-tone bust of Jesus crowned with thorns is known as Ecce Homo which means, "Behold the Man" - the words spoken by Pontius Pilate when he presented the scourged Christ, bound and crowned with thorns, to a hostile crowd shortly before His crucifixion. St. Teresa of Avila recounts that one day, when she was 39, she entered the oratory of her convent and saw a statue of the Ecce Homo and the sight of the suffering Christ caused her heart to break. She threw herself down at His feet and would not rise until she had obtained the grace of conversion. This bust is made of resin and measures approximately 8"H. |
