Black history in America can be seen, heard, and felt through jazz. Jazz is the music and words of American culture, originating in the southern African American community.

Jazz’s influence is felt in all aspects of American music, and often beyond our boarders. We are thrilled to be part of this tradition and helping people of all ages enjoy #livemusic.

People can have mixed, and often controversial, emotions about a white musician playing a Black musician’s songs, but we thought it would be more insulting to leave a show that honors Stevie Wonder off of this list.

The Jack Hadley Band

Special Mention: This is one of two shows designed for Black History Month

The Band will perform original music written by Jack Hadley from his latest release “Daybreak in Alabama- The Langston Hughes Project” and “The St. Louis Sessions.”

Hadley wrote nine songs based on some of Hughes’ poems, changing his poetry into lyrics. Hughes wrote about his American experience as a Black man.

These are poems based on universal themes- The Lord, History, Love, Redemption, and yes, Racism. Hadley amplifies his message through his music.

Jack Hadley is a monster blues guitarist/singer with an amazing sum of influences: “North Mississippi drone blues-meets Jimi/BB/Albert/Curtis Mayfield/Marley filtered through- Haight Ashbury…” (Bob Lohr, producer, San Telmo Media).

Purnell Steen & the Five Points Ambassadors

Special Mention: This is one of two shows designed for Black History Month

Purnell Steen and The Five Points Ambassadors (also known as LeJazz Machine) is a band dedicated to playing and preserving the music of Denver’s legendary Five Points neighborhood.

The Blues-oriented Hard Bop music is basically Swing style. And Denver’s own Myra Warren rounds out the ensemble.

For their annual show in Celebration of Black History Month, they will definitely Swing and Sway the Five Points Way, and ever the storyteller, Purnell will share the histories of Black artists who have worked and played in Five Points.

YouTube Archives: A Conversation About Race From the Dazzle Stage & Black Male Mental Health, Trauma and Resilience

Last summer, when our stages were closed to musicians, and the Black Lives Matter protests took over our streets and lives, Dazzle used its microphones and livestreaming equipment to bring a series of conversations into people’s homes. Those conversations are still available and still relevant today. We encourage you to take some time for self-reflection through them.

Due to the Nov. 24 Public Health Order, face coverings will be required in Denver for everyone aged 2 and older in all public, indoor spaces. This means that all customers at are required to wear a face covering when not actively eating or drinking.

Additionally, as of January 4th, everyone entering Dazzle at Baur’s needs to present proof of vaccination. However, we will continue to allow negative Covid tests taken within 72 hours for those who purchased tickets before Jan. 4th.

Kids under 12 are free. Why? Because we want to help you raise kids who grown into adults that love and support live music.
