Inventur: An Introduction

Watch as curator Lynette Roth introduces our new special exhibition Inventur—Art in Germany, 1943–55, opening February 9. The first exhibition of its kind, Inventur examines the highly charged artistic landscape in Germany from the mid-1940s to mid-1950s; it includes more than 160 works, many of which have never been on view outside Germany.

One of the most influential artist duos working in the age of the Internet, JODI was formed in 1994 by Joan Heemskerk and Dirk Paesmans. JODI has developed a new project, OXO, for our Lightbox Gallery, a collaborative space for digital projects on the museums’ uppermost level. More



Film Screening and Discussion: Albatross

Join us for a special screening of Albatross—a visual journey exploring the consequences of plastics pollution through the eyes of the albatross population on Midway Island in the North Pacific. Following the screening, filmmaker Chris Jordan will be in conversation with Harvard faculty, including Terry Tempest Williams, writer-in-residence at Harvard Divinity School. More

 


Materials Lab Workshop: Byzantine Tapestry Weaving

Tuesday, February 13, 10am–1pm
Materials Lab, Lower Level

Participants will study examples of early Byzantine textiles to learn about materials, weave structure, and conservation challenges before making a simple tapestry of their own on a small frame loom. More

Materials Lab Workshop: Direct Animation & Cameraless Filmmaking

Saturday, February 24, 1–4pm
Materials Lab, Lower Level

Presented in conjunction with our special exhibition Inventur—Art in Germany 1943–55, participants will view a sampling of direct animation films, then experiment with a range of cameraless animation techniques on 16mm film to create their own visual segments inspired by a musical score. More

Join our student guides for in-depth tours focused on objects in our collections, free with admission. Tours run Fridays at 2pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 11am and 3pm. More


Free Parking on Weekends

Limited free parking for visitors is now available from 10am to 5pm on weekends in Harvard University's Broadway Garage, at 7 Felton Street. Parking tickets must be validated at the museums’ admissions desk before returning to the garage.
