A Teen Residential Program and Community Counseling Center

February 2019 E-News

This month our Girl's Home residents were invited to attend Passion City Church in Atlanta, GA with friends of the Sherrys, our girl's home houseparents. They "had a wonderful worship experience" and were able to use sermon notes from their visit in their devotions back at the Girl's Home. We are grateful for those that reach out to our homes wanting to expose our residents to positive experiences and influence. Thank you, Passion City Church, for welcoming our girls into your service.
We had a successful Pickens County Chamber Business After Hours event on Tuesday, February 19th at our Girl's Home, despite the stormy weather. We are grateful for our partners that came particularly to show support for our ministry. Your presence was very much appreciated! We were thankful for the many chamber members who attended and were able to better familiarize themselves with our ministry. President and CEO of the Pickens County Chamber, Amberle Johnson Godfrey, stated "wow, just wow" in response to seeing the girl's home first hand. Our Executive Director, Steve Lowe, was able to give a brief overview of what we have to share with the community through our Residential Program and Community Counseling Center. Many attendees took a tour of the girl's home, with our girl's shining as tour guides. We enjoyed delicious hors d'oeuvres prepared and provided by SharpTop Cove - A Young Life Camp and a wonderful time of fellowship together. If you missed this opportunity to visit our campus, no worries! Just contact us to let us know that you'd like to take a tour and we'll be happy to show you around.

Counselor's Corner - Living Faith

By: Bill Wattenbarger,PhD

In his Letter, James the Apostle and brother of Jesus gives some troubling advice regarding trials and tribulations. He says we are to be grateful for trials and look for endurance, which leads to perfection. We are told the deficiency is in us. We are told to ask for wisdom in faith, without doubt (double-mindedness). We cannot expect help from God if we don’t know which way the wind is blowing.

Did I hear anybody say, “yeah, right? Just be grateful for trouble and you will be happy in the end. There must be a trick here.”

Why would God want to put us through such trouble? Well, He doesn’t. He cannot be tempted by evil and neither does He tempt us with evil. We just get lured-in by our own desires and the devil’s designs. He is loving and gracious. He does not want us to feel foolish or guilty. He just wants us to come to Him and ask for help.
