Where to start? With Party de plaisir, one of those albums that you know you can play at any party and triumph.

What you should know: In his promotional photos Teki Latex encourages us not to take him seriously. But it takes a lot of skill to do slapstick and not lose the vibe on the dancefloor. Because, at the end of the day, both comedy and electronica are a matter of accuracy and tempo, and when you're behind the decks it’s no joke.

What you don't necessarily need to know, but it's cool: The graphic design of his Sound Pellegrino label was inspired by that of the very serious Deutsche Grammophon. Outrage with substance.

Tione Merritt was born in the spring of 2001 in the borough of Fordham, in the Bronx, not too far from where the story usually places the birthplace of hip-hop. These coordinates undoubtedly marked his childhood, but now, globally known as Lil Tjay , Merritt actually personifies the new times of the genre. He is a rapper, yes, but one moulded in the gen-Z way. His story, more than in the Bronx, began on the internet: when Soundcloud became too small for him (which was quick, at the age of 16, when Resume spread like wildfire across the platform), he conquered YouTube. And then TikTok.

Lil Tjay's rise has been as frenetic as the drill beats with which he is often associated due to his friendship with Pop Smoke and Fivio Foreign, although his speciality is, in fact, something else: ultra-melodic, practically sung rap, with choruses that could be envied by a pop star. Or the new obsession of anyone who misses the golden age of Usher and Nelly as the most romantic r&b troubadours. After a 2023 in which he released his third album and collaborated with Ice Spice, Lil Tjay is ready to give the biggest concerts in Spain of his career. On 7th May he will perform at La Riviera in Madrid and on 8th May at Razzmatazz in Barcelona.
