Federal judges rule: New Louisiana congressional map is unconstitutional

The three-judge panel tasked with deciding Louisiana's congressional future has ruled that the map the Louisiana Legislature drew in January that added a second majority-Black district is unconstitutional. 

It's  also too late for state legislators to file the necessary bills to draw another map during their regular session that ends on June 3. Read more. 


On the subject of court rulings, there's more to the St. George situation. Baton Rouge Mayor Pro Tem Lamont Cole, the leader of Baton Rouge's Metro Council is requesting a new hearing on the incorporation of St George from the Louisiana Supreme Court, his attorney said Tuesday. And, the future of the new city's school district is becoming more clear. During the 11 years that St. George backers have sought to form the city, a common misconception is was the new city, if formed, would immediately result in a new companion school district carved out of the East Baton Rouge Parish.
