Federal jury dismisses former LSU athletic official's claims against school

A jury dismissed all claims Wednesday in a lawsuit filed by former LSU athletics administrator Sharon Lewis accusing top officials in the department of retaliating against her for reporting sexual misconduct.

She had asked jurors to award her more than $6.3 million in compensatory damages and another $300,000 for emotional damages.

The jury deliberated for three hours before announcing its findings.


To help both first responders and victims of natural disasters, a 100,000-square-foot rescue center is being planned in Livingston Parish, providing space for about 500 cots for displaced residents and emergency personnel.

Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard has been a strong proponent for the center but said he had almost lost hope it could become a reality until recently.

The project is expected to be completed in the summer or early fall of 2025.
