The synthetic opioid was responsible for over 18,000 overdose death in 2016, the most recent year for which statistics were available. For the previous four years (2012 to 2015), heroin topped the list, according to the report prepared by the Centers for Disease Control. Overdose deaths from Fentanyl increased by an average of 113 percent per year from 2013 to 2016, the report said. |
