Iffland's winning Sydney dive: Lake Macquarie champion cliff diver Rhiannan Iffland has won the Sydney leg of the Cliff Diving World Series. For the first time, competitors dived from a purpose-built 27-metre platform in the middle of Sydney Harbour on Saturday. Iffland had already earned enough points to claim her sixth world title leading into the final leg of the tour during the previous stop in Italy. Picture supplied: Red Bull
Hospital concerns: A number of senior doctors from the John Hunter Hospital have written a letter saying their ability to provide adequate healthcare standards is at crisis point, with inadequate bed capacity, critical care and theatre access. Hunter New England Local Health District chief executive Michael Di Rienzo says he has not been made aware of the concerns, and the letter wasn't a true representation of the hospital's doctors.
Catholic schools shake up: The Catholic Schools Office has released its recommendations for a big change to secondary schooling across three of its Newcastle schools. St Francis Xavier's College in Hamilton, currently years 11 and 12, will take year 7 students beginning in 2024. St Pius will have its first year 11 cohort no later than 2025. San Clemente at Mayfield will start year 11 students in 2026.
Vineyards scratchie: Visitors to cellar doors in the Hunter Valley can now use a new "scratchie" style card to keep track of how much they've had to drink. The Stay Tasteful While Tasting initiative is designed to promote safety and responsible drinking.
The Fight Goes On: That's the name of a campaign Stockton residents are hoping will get the attention of all levels of government. The community is ramping up its fight to fix the devastating erosion of the local beach. They want anyone who has visited and enjoyed Stockton over the years to write to politicians about the issue. | Visit our website for more local news |

If it's not already raining as you read this, there's a strong chance it will be soon! The Hunter is in for showers and possible thunderstorms for the rest of the week, and into the weekend too. Daytime temperatures will stay mild, in the low to mid-twenties. But on Friday parts of our region will reach 26 degrees Celsius. The low pressure system that's bringing the rain will weaken but another rain-bearing system will quickly follow at the tail end of the weekend. | Check the seven-day forecast for your town |
