The latest crime-fighting plans, a new water park and Chewbacchus cut short

By Drew Broach | Deputy metro editor

EIGHT-POINT PLAN: Even as Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams and Police Superintendent Shaun Williams pledged to work together to fight crime, there were political signs that it's insufficient. Four City Council members rolled out their own eight-point plan, underscoring that while Ferguson and Williams might be ready to make amends, council members remained skeptical that enough is being done to contain the rise in recent carjackings and shootings.

ALL WET: With the temperature around 40 degrees in New Orleans this morning, it might be hard to think about visiting a water park. But come summer, a $70 million indoor-outdoor attraction plans to open along the Gulf Coast playground where so many southeast Louisiana residents vacation. At Foley, Alabama, the 100,000-square-foot Tropic Falls will include a lazy river and 11 water slides - one of them with a 75-foot free fall - under a retractable roof.

WALK THIS WAY: The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus will have its Saturday night foot parade shortened even more after the New Orleans Police Department told officials it couldn't staff the 2022 route as planned, krewe officials said. A new foot parade, however, plans to step out Friday night: Les Fous du Carnaval, a combined effort of three marching groups, will stroll Faubourg Marigny and the French Quarter.
