Filling the top shelf

Good morning from Fort Worth, Texas.

It's Championship Saturday here. It could be the day LSU gymnasts, their coaches and fans have long waited for.

The day that the Tigers win the program's first national title.

With the stunning elimination of No. 1 and two-time reigning NCAA champion Oklahoma in Thursday's semifinals, the No. 2-seeded Tigers become the team to beat. But it's a crowded field of contenders that also includes No. 3 California, No. 4 Florida and No. 5 Utah. It would hardly be a stretch to see any of them lift the trophy, a trophy the Tigers hope to put on the empty top shelf of their trophy case at the LSU gymnastics facility.

"It's gymnastics," said LSU's Haleigh Bryant, who won the NCAA all-around title Thursday while the Tigers' Aleah Finnegan won the floor title. "So anything can happen."

The meet begins at 3 p.m. here at Dickies Arena. It will be televised on ABC.

There will be no championship run for the LSU baseball team in 2024, SEC, national or otherwise, unless the Tigers turn their season around now. Was Friday's 12-1, run-rule win at Missouri a start of that turnaround? Only time will tell, but it's at least a positive start for an LSU team still trying to win its first SEC series.

The football transfer portal continues to go full blast. Picture a fire hydrant that has been cranked wide open. See which three LSU defensive reserves are waving goodbye.

Remember when the LSU softball team got off to that amazing start? Starting to seem like a long time ago. The Tigers went to Tennessee on Friday and lost their series opener, 3-0

Finally, the LSU Alumni Gold track and field meet is here this weekend. Check out what to expect right here.

That's all for now, folks. Have a great sporting weekend and we'll see you next time.
