Do you remember the pride you felt working your first job? For high school student Jon, that sense of accomplishment has come while selling produce this summer at CUESA's Ferry Plaza Farmers Market as a Foodwise Teens Fellow:
“I felt most proud whenever the customers in the farmers market were happy when they got produce from our stand,” says Jon, shown above (left) with farmer Juan-Carlos Gonzales from Green Thumb Organics. “I also felt good when I felt like I was doing a good job and was being helpful. Participating in the fellowship helped me feel empowered to make a change in the food system because I worked in the farmers market.”
We are in the final stretch of our August Back to School, Back to the Farmers Market fundraising push, with just 1 day to go. If you have already donated, thank you! We still need support, as we are $3,375 away from our end-of-the-month fundraising goal.
Every kid deserves to feel pride gaining new skills and making a difference in their community, especially in these challenging, socially distant times. CUESA’s education programs serve 2,500 SFUSD students each year, and as students return to the classroom this fall, we need your help today to keep programs like Foodwise Teens and Foodwise Kids going for kids in our community.
P.S. Does your employer offer matching gifts on charitable contributions? Your gift can go even futher! Donate now.
Your donation is tax-deductible and will make a difference! For other ways to donate, such as through a Donor Advised Fund (DAF), contact: cindy@cuesa.org.
