Finally, Jazz Fest. And close encounters of the alligator kind

By Bob Warren

Jazz Fest: Today’s the big day -- The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival opened at the Fairgrounds after a two-year absence. Expect big crowds if you're headed out. (And great music and food…) Here’s what you need to know today.

And while we’re on the subject, we’ve started a Jazz Fest newsletter. Sign up here. Great inside scoop on the food, music, and everything else.

Springtime and alligators: Alligators are hardly an uncommon sight around much of the region. But in St. Tammany Parish, where much of the residential development pushes up to wetlands, reports of “nuisance” gators are climbing, state wildlife officials say. Their advice: Steer clear of those big teeth and call the experts.

Hope you enjoyed today’s Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us. And of course, be sure to check out NOLA.com for more news throughout the day.
